ABB COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF K-TEK

Integration of instrumentation maker expected to boost offering for oil and gas, water markets Houston, Texas, July 08, 2010 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, announced today it has completed its acquisition of Prairieville, Louisiana company K-TEK, which becomes part of the Measurement Products business unit within ABB’s Process Automation division. With over 350,000 installations since its founding in 1975, K-TEK is recognized as a global leader in level detection technology. The operation employs more than 250 people with facilities in China, Netherlands, India and South Africa in addition to the US. The acquisition is in line with ABB’s strategy to pursue growth opportunities that complement the company’s product, technology and geographical portfolio. K-TEK AT AND MT TRANSMITTERS ARE FIRST TO HAVE SIL2/SIL3 CERTIFICATION

The K-TEK MT series of guided wave radars and AT series of magnetostrictive transmitters are the only level transmitters in the world to be IEC 61508 certified for operation in SIL2 (Safety Integrity Level 2) environments and are SIL3 approved with redundancy. The guided wave radar’s self-monitoring capability continually checks for any faults that could cause device failures or false indications, and the magnetostrictive transmitter’s strong electrical return pulse provides highly reliable measurements.
